O'Pioneers Essay

A detailed Summary of O'Pioneers Essay

In O Pioneers by Willa Cather, minor characters such as Lou, Oscar, and Emil Bergson, and Amedee Chevalier contribute significantly to the book's theme. During this period of time, in the late 1800's, in the Nebraska plains, times were rough, and life was unpleasant. Some characters throughout the course of the story create tension between their own family members, as in the case of Lou and Oscar Bergson versus Alexandra, their authoritative sister. Also, Ivar contributes to the book's meaning because he teaches others, that everyone should not assimilate to society. He proved that life should be lived to its' fullest extent. Without Amedee's role, he would not have left a great legacy for the town to admire.
