Beowulf's First Battle

I remember it like it happened yesterday. My first battle. I was almost thirteen years of age. My friends and I were, in the village, watching the storyteller perform. When my mother came, screaming at the top her lungs telling me to get to my house, and the other boys to get to theirs. Everyone rushed towards their house, knowing that it was time for the beast to appear. Everyone shut the doors behind them. There was absolute silence in the village. Everything was so still, that the village looked like a town uninhabited for years. The demon came once every week to prey on our livestock.

It had been coming to our village for three fortnights. The demon looked like a wolf, only bigger and much deadlier. It was powerful and ruthless. It killed our livestock with one blow of its sharp claw, then devoured it savagely with its razor sharp teeth. Many brave men had tried to protect the village, but only in vein. They only
