The downfall of Macbeth

The Downfall of Macbeth

Human tendency of blaming others has been a universal concept. This issue is of

such importance that it is used as a major conflict in many of the world's famous works of

literature. One such well known work is Shakespeare's famous tragedy Macbeth. People

and ideas can greatly affect the outcome of a person's life, determining whether the

outcome will be successful or disastrous. Decisions and actions can also influence

outcome. Many factors cause the ruin of Macbeth and for that reason, all the blame for

his downfall cannot be placed on Macbeth himself.

The witches in the Tragedy Macbeth share partial blame in the downfall of

Macbeth. The three witches are introduced right at the beginning of the play. Later in the

play Macbeth is prophecised by the witches to be "The Thane of Glamis, Cawdor, and the

King thereafter" (I, iii, 48-50). By revealing these prophecies, the witches give Macbeth a

glimpse in his future and make him ambitious. Also they offer Macbeth temptations in the

wrongdoings. It is to Macbeth's point of view to take a step forward, or to stop where he

is. Part of his point of view is affected when Ross and Angus come to Macbeth and tell
