Outsider
When reading various novels a person can discover similarities between books that do not have anything to do with each other. Three books can be compared very easily with each of their characters, and sometimes even their themes. Albert Camus's The Outsider is very similar in the context to the characters and storyline of Dean Koontz's Midnight and Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. By observing the text of The Outsider, Midnight, and To Kill a Mockingbird, a person can easily discover that there are many occurrences in all three books that are relatively similar. An observation that can be made about The Outsider, Midnight, and To Kill a Mockingbird, is that they all have something to do with the murder of innocent people. Evidence can support this statement when observing passages from each novel. For instance, in the text of To Kill a Mockingbird, the text reads, "'They shot him,' said Atticus. 'He was running. It was during their exercise period'". When Atticus refers to 'him', he means Tom Robinson who was a convicted murderer of which the reader knows is actually innocent. A related instance occurred in The Outsider. For example, the narrator states, "And I fired four more times at a lifeless body and the bullets sank i
By examining the text of Albert Camus's The Outsider and Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, it is clear that the books are written in a narrative form from the a characters point of view. Both books are about major events that occur in the lives of the individual narrator. In The Outsider, information can be obtained from the text to prove that the book has a first person narrator. This can be proved in just the first line in the novel "Mother died today. Or maybe yesterday, I don't know" (Camus, 9.) In the text of To Kill a Mockingbird, similar evidence can be provided. For instance, the text reads, "When he was thirteen my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow" (Lee, 3.) The novel Midnight is third person omniscient therefore could not be related in this way. It is clear that the two books To Kill a Mockingbird and The Outsider are written in a first person narrative form giving the reader the chance to experience life through the narrator's eyes. Evidence can be provided to conclude that the characters in The Outsider, Midnight, are similar in personality and beliefs. In the novel The Outsider, the main character (Meursault) is a truthful person that is happy with life and nothing, not even the fact that he is about to be executed, interferes with how happy he is with life. This is evident when the Meursault states, "I realized I'd be happy, and that I was still happy" (Camus, 117.) A character named Tessa from Dean R. Koontz's Mid
