Not uncommon among families in this day in age are differences between parents and children on life choices. What I mean by this is that parents want their kids to do the "right" thing and most of the time the kids have other plans. I'll give you a personal situation first. The issue is bringing a vehicle from Brandon, MB to university in Saskatoon, SK. My stance is that vehicles are great things to have and should be used to eliminate inconvenience whenever possible. The second situation is a global parent versus child battle. The underage consumption of alcoholic beverages with friends has always been somewhat of a ritual for high school and college students. Although some teenagers avoid the peer pressure and incessant advertising schemes, many (including myself) succumb to the temptation. I feel that exploring life, including illegal substances, is part of growing up. One should not be afraid of drugs, but understand them and know why not to take them. That can only be learned through experience. Parents believe the "don't do ... " method works better than letting their children find out for themselves. This is proven to be a major difference between parents and their offspring.
