The purpose of this paper is to examine the problems of violence in schools. Crime in and around schools threatens the well being of students, school staff, and communities. "A school crime occurs ever six seconds. More than 3 million crimes, about 11 percent of the total number of crimes in the United States each year, occur in schools"(Day 9). Whether it is gang violence or sexual harassment, violence in schools has been a growing problem. Most school officials agree that incidents have become more serious.
