Death of a Salesman is about a disillusioned salesman that is living in a world that is far from reality. Willy is living in a world where he sees himself as successful, popular, rich and one of the best salesman in the country. This is far from the truth. Willy's failure in life has led him to 'dream' of what he really wants. This has led to a very warped self image.

Willy believes he is one of the best salesman in the country, where he is well know everywhere and very popular. This is far from reality, and Willy has trouble seeing the truth. This is evident when he says, "You take me, for instance. I never have to wait in line to see a buyer. 'Willy Loman is here!' That's all they have to know, and I go right through." Willy thinks he is very successful and well


The flaw in Willy's character that ultimately led to his downfall was not that he had a dream, but that he knew he hadn't and couldn't achieve it, but continued to act and think that he had. Throughout the play Willy's character deteriorates and worsens as he drift further and further into his fantasy world. As he drifts into this world, the ever approaching choice of suicide gets closer. Willy could no longer live his dream and ended his life.

Willy is very disillusioned with life. He is angry that things are the way they are. He wishes to live the life of the American dream. His anger and frustration with life is revealed when he says "Figure it out. Work a lifetime to pay off a house. You finally own it, and there's nobody to live in it."
