At the beginning of the novel, Jane is living with her aunt and her cousins. This was one of the worst times of her life. She had many differences to them. "by the consciousness of my physical inferiority to Eliza, John, and Georgiana Reed." (6) Jane feels that she is an unattractive girl, because of the many reactions she gets from others. She is also set upon a different social class than her cousins. At Thornfield, Jane meets the man that will change her life, Rochester, as a governess. At first, she has does not have a good impression on Rochester "... there was so much unconsciousness pride in his port." (135) Rochester makes Jane feel very uncomfortable. Jane with her witty remarks and great ideas makes Rochester fall in love with her. However, Jane starts to have very mixed feelings about him. She looked at him as an idol. "I both wished and feared to see Mr. Rochester."(155) She inside felt love for him. "I wanted to hear his voice again, yet I feared to meet his eyes." (155) Time passes and they learn to love each other. "... I have learnt to love Mr. Rochester: I could not unlove him now... But I was not jealous... the nature of the pain I suffered could not be explained by that word." (188) At Thornfield Jane feels at home and happy. "Merry days at Thornfield Hall...all sad feelings seemed some now driven from the house, all gloomy associations forgotten; there was life everywhere..."(184) Here at Thornfield, she goes through many feelings jealousy and anger.
