The Cold War
A balanced friendship between the United States and Russia had lasted for nearly 100 years. Even though Russia and the Americans had contrasting political beliefs they still managed to keep an alliance in the 1930’s and early 40’s to defeat the growing surge of fascism that Hitler had made popular in Europe and other countries through out the world. But when the United States dropped the first Atomic bomb on the Japanese to virtually end WW2, suspicion erupted, as the Russians did not know the amount of technology the USA had gained. The Russians worried about the United States dominance, and started to make their own nuclear weapons thus ending the respectable relationship between the 2 nations. After 1945, mutual suspicion and bitterness between the 2 countries grew stronger as the non-military battle of communism, capitalism begun. After WW2 Germany was spilt up into two countries. The East which was run by the USSR and the West which was run by the USA, France and Britain. The West was financially doing better then the East which was a bad thing for Joseph Stalin the leader of the USSR as they had to return some of the land to the USA for the economy in the East to get better.
