how do our beliefs about the w

The question of how our beliefs about the world and about what is valuable influence our pursuit of knowledge is very important. Of course we know that our beliefs affect us in our every day life. They affect our actions, our interactions with people, they even affect our eating habits. If we believe that it is important to eat well, then we are not going to eat cookies for lunch, instead we would try to eat something healthy, such as a sandwich or fruit. If we believe that the ozone layer is deteriorating because of the pollution from cars, we might walk or ride a bicycle to work instead of driving. We know also that people have different ideas about what is important and what should be a top priority. The way that I view the world and my idea of what is important might not be the same as my friend's ideas. No two people are the same and that is why our beliefs about the world and about what is important are not the same either. Our education, upbringing, and experiences are what makes us into the people that we are and since no two people have the exact same experience of life, no two people have the exact same views on what's important and what the world is.

Our beliefs about the world are all very different. Some of

us believe that the world is a good place, while others believe that it is an evil place; some are convinced that we are not the only living beings in the universe, while others can not fathom that there is any life outside of our planet. The beliefs that we have about the world influence our pursuit of knowledge because our views and beliefs make us who we are. We all have concieved a particular view of the world based on knowledge drawn from our experiences, other people's experiences, our education and our religious beliefs. This knowledge greatly influences our pursuit of knowledge. For example, if a person believes in the creation theory, not the evolution theory, he or she is not going to spend their time trying to find missing links and trying to prove the evolution theory, instead, that person is going to devote their time to try to prove the creation theory. Why should any person try to find an answer to a question that, according to their knowledge, does not exist?

A very popular, modern belief is that the amount of garbage that is being thrown away is polluting the earth. We also believe that it is very valuable to keep our planet clean and as pollution free as possible. This belief about the world and belief about what is valuable motivates us to sort our trash before throwing it away, it prompts us to take a bus, carpool, or just walk to work and school, and it encourages us to gain knowledge about how we can reduce pollution. Once that knowledge is gained and we realize how important it really is to keep the earth clean, we are compelled to learn how to reduce the amount of trash that we throw away, then we want to know even more about how to reduce pollution and clean up our planet.

The gaining of knowledge always leads to a desire to act according to the beliefs that we have made thro
