Lucid Dreams

Dreams are wonderful and mysterious. Some believe that dreams have meaning, and that some do not. I believe that some dreams actually do have some meaning; but some dreams are just for fun. I have recently begun to study a type of dream that is called Lucid Dreaming. A lucid dream is a dream in which you are aware of the fact that you are dreaming. If you can realize that you are asleep in your dream, than you can control your surroundings and the content of your dreams.

Lucid dreaming is a scientifically accepted phenomenon, which has been proven to exist countless times in sleep laboratories, and whose potentials are only beginning to be explored. Only about 20% of the population has reported having a lucid dream once a month or more. But according to Dr. Stephen LaBerge Ph. D., lucid dreaming can be acquired.

Lucid dreaming has many useful benefits. They can be used to find out who you are and how you work. It can also be used to overcome nightmares and be used in the treatment of phobias. Dr. Stephen LaBerge has developed techniques, such as the Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreaming, to help increase the frequency of lucid dreams. Other scientists such as Dr. Charles McPhee, Patricia Garfeild, and Robert Mos

There are basic skills that are a foundation for learning how to have lucid dreams, they are: attitude, discipline, awareness, will power, concentration, intention, and memory. The next step is to use and be able to function with these skills. Attitude: you need to believe that you can accomplish anything. Discipline: develop a routine of recording your dreams every day. Awareness: Be aware of, "dream signs", peculiar events or objects that indicate that you are dreaming. Will Power: you need to have the will to succeed. Use the power of suggestion. Tell yourself before you go to bed, "I will have a lucid dream and I will remember it." Concentration: You must be able to focus on one object or idea, and block out all other thoughts. Intention: If you set to do the previous steps, then do it. Memory: Do some training exercises to increase your memory. Make a list of targets to recognize each day. For example: every time you look in the mirror, or every time you get into your car, ask yourself "am I dreaming" record how many times you remember to ask yourself this for each target. Keep doing the exercise until your memory has improved.

The first thing that you want to do is to start a dream journal. This is to record everything about your dreams that you can remember each night. This will improve your dream recall, help you pay attention to your dreams, and it establishes a daily routine that molds the idea of dreaming into your life. You also should know your sleep. During the night you go though 90-minute sleep cycles consisting of 4 different stages. Stage 1: the process of falling asle
