Brave New World vs. Reality

In many ways, the world which is created in Brave New World can be very similar to our world, yet there are large differences which set it apart from ours. Although BNW is only one man’s idea of the future, and during the time which it was written may have seemed like an impossible future, today, many of the ideas in it are not very far fetched. Huxley does a good job of creating a totally different reality, where almost nothing is the same as it is today. The important thing is that he does it while still making it realistic. So the result is a world that totally challenges our ways of life, and presents a very different way of looking at things.

The two worlds obviously must have similarities, because we would be their ancestors. One major similarity is that they both have a lot of discrimination against people of different social classes. Today’s discrimination is mainly based on things like, race, religion, sexual preference, and ethnicity. BNW’s discrimination is based on the different social classes that everyone is born into.
