Brave New World vs. Reality
In many ways, the world which is created in Brave New World can be very similar to our world, yet there are large differences which set it apart from ours. Although BNW is only one man's idea of the future, and during the time which it was written may have seemed like an impossible future, today, many of the ideas in it are not very far fetched. Huxley does a good job of creating a totally different reality, where almost nothing is the same as it is today. The important thing is that he does it while still making it realistic. So the result is a world that totally challenges our ways of life, and presents a very different way of looking at things. As a free country, we offer the chance at happiness and wealth to anybody who works to achieve it, not like in BNW, where it is decided before you are born. Another big difference between our world and the World State is that although drugs are used in both worlds for various reasons, they are encouraged in the World State. Today, most mind altering drugs are illegal, and are there are many efforts to keep people off drugs. In contrast, BNW encourages people to take soma whenever they feel that they need it. Personally, I gathered that the World State and our world are a lot more different than they are similar. The entire social sys
