Plains Indians
To begin, the Plains Indian tribes have wandered the vast plains of the United States for centuries. But the second half of the ninetieth century drastically changes the live of the Plains Indians who lost many of their traditions and customs due to the technological developments and government actions of that time. The restrictions imposed on them favored expansionist policies and encouraged growth in the plains of the Midwest. For many years, the Plains Indians have carried on the ways of their ancestors. One of these age old traditions is their respect and holiness of the land. They believed that it was a sacred because their ancestor were buried there and that is where they will go once they pass on. A strong supporter of this was Chief Joseph who urged Indians to keep their lands and not sell them to the white man until he lost the Battle of Little Big Horn and realized that the end has come near for them. The Plains offered the Indians life. The bison, which roamed the Plains in large herds, provided the Indians with food, clothing, and other useful items. They never wasted the precious bis
on or exploited it's natural good, but rather respected it. Many of the tribes of the Plains were nomadic, meaning they moved around and never really settle. They followed the bison herds and lived off of them. They never had a really established. So when the reservation system came into play, they fought it harshly. Eventually, this way of life for them will take a turn for the worse. To bring this to a close, the Indians were a peaceful people and wanted no trouble with anyone, all they wanted was to be left alone. But the zealousness of the American people couldn't accept this and so the Indians must suffer. The technological advancements and government restriction only hindered the Indians way of life until the majority of the people couldn't handle it anymore. And so the Plain Indians was pushed aside for the growing nation. Along with these technological developments, government actions and laws accompanied them giving little hope the Indians.
