The Watergate affair was an event in the history of the United States in July 1972, when a series of scandals which involved President Richard Nixon. In July 1972 people in Nixon's reelection committee were arrested in Democratic Party headquarters, in the Watergate apartment building in Washington, DC after they attempted to tap telephones. They were all tried and convicted in 1973. District Court Judge John Sirica had suspected that a conspirac
