Quarks
Quarks are curious things. I found them very interesting. I guess I can start at the beginning… The first question would be “What are quarks?” Well…they are and group of elementary particles that are basic constituents of all hadrons. Well, that’s a great question for a physicist. Not for me! I had to go a lot farther to get the answer to that question. Basically, quarks are the building blocks of everything you see! Quarks combine to make protons and neutrons, which form the nucleus of and atom, which in turn forms everything on Earth. (There are also anti-quarks, but I will not get them until later!) There are six different kinds of quarks: 1. Up, 2. Down, 3. Charm, 4. Strange, 5. Top, and 6. Bottom. These different kinds of quarks combine with each other, in groups of threes to form protons, neutrons, and other particles called baryons. Most of our works is made up of up quarks and down quarks. Neither of these quarks could exist as an isolated particle, because their masses would be very small. An up quark has and electric charge of +2/3, and a down quark has an electric charge of -1/3, These are compared to the fundamental charge of an electron, which is –1. A charm quark, and its partner, the strange quar
