Last Of The Mohicans V. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner There are both similarities and differences between Last of the Mohicans and Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Both of these tales are considered to be epics. James Fenimore Cooper and Samuel Taylor Coleridge were both "Romantics." Both were "Romantics" but Cooper was an "American Romantic" while Coleridge was a traditional "English Romantic." Both were great stories , but only one was made into a major motion picture. Rime of the Ancient Mariner was written as a poem, and Last of the Mohicans was written as a story but later composed to a movie. There are many obvious similarities and differences between the two. One similarity between Last of the Mohicans and Rime of the Ancient Mariner was, that in both stories there was a "last man standing." Rime of the Ancient Mariner's last man standing was the mariner himself. While in the Last of the Mohicans the actual last Mohican was Chingachgook. The mariner was the last man on the boat alive after the other one hundred ninety-nine men were killed after two gods rolled dice for their lives. Chingachgook was the last
stay alive. It was settled by the two gods instead of being blown away by muskets or broken into hear it. It is ironic in this story that the good sailors died young while the mariner committed a Rime of the Ancient Mariner a lot of these people were just common casualties. Except their fate Mariner was heartless also but it was like the sailors destiny to die and the mariners destiny to three examples of gods in this story.
