Steroids are a synthetic version of the human hormone called testosterone, and they can be very addictive. Currently, there are more than 100 different types of steroids that have been developed. The two most common are gamma hydroxybutyrate, also known as GHB, and clenbuterol. Steroid use is never safe, whether in large or small doses; in fact, it is so dangerous that very few studies have been done with humans. According to the 1999 survey, 2.7 percent of 8th and 10th graders reported that they had taken steroids at least once in their lives, and 1.7 percent had used them in the past year.
