Slavery and Racism

Racism stems from one of the most disgusted practices of all time, slavery. Since slavery has started, slaves have been thought of as animals. They were owned and forced to work for their owners. This way of seeing slaves, blacks, got imbedded into the minds of white people. For this reason, whites did not see blacks as equals, leading to blacks being singled out and picked on. Slavery set the tone of mind for whites believing they are better than blacks or any other race.

As the Industrial Revolution started it became evident that it was the most significant reason for the end of slavery. Machines were invented that could do the work of slaves more effectively and efficiently. Slaves were no longer needed as much with machines, since human labor was replaced with machinery. Europeans started look into cash crops for exploitation of Africa instead of slavery as well. This new type of exploitation was labeled Legitimate Commerce. Europe imposed taxes to Africa, which in turned forced them to produce cash crops. Cash crops were crops that Europe would buy from Africa so they could pay their taxes. These crops were used as raw materials in European markets. Steamships were invented that replaced caravels. These ships allowed transported of larger amounts of
