The Sixth Sense

The sixth sense is a well-constructed movie with many themes, symbols, and underlying meanings intertwined into the movie. I feel that a very important part of the movie is the use of symbolism, different themes and perspectives in the movie. Without the many different symbols, themes, and perspectives used the movie never would have given off the same effect as it did, and never would have been such a successful film. The director thought very hard about these as well as many other issues to make the movie such a hit.

The use of symbolism is present throughout the entire duration of the film. A very main them I believe is tied into a use of symbolism. That is the use of the color red everywhere. In every scene that I can recollect the color red has appeared in either the background, or in the main part of the screen as someone's clothing. The use of red is also very present when a ghostly presence is around. Thus, red is used to symbolize the presence of a ghostly figure or perhaps death. The use of red is evident everywhere in the movie, and without a doubt is a very important theme as well as symbo

Lastly, the light and dark imagery that is used is absolutely significant to the plot as well as to the underlying themes in the film. Every scene in the film is taken through a dark background until the very last scene where the movie is playing and the truth is revealed to the audience. It is "the light" shown in that last scene that Bruce Willis has seen "the light" and understands why his wife has stopped talking to him and why everything has changed. Immediately following this comes the use of the cold imagery by the director signifying the presence of a ghost and of death (Malcolm.)

In conclusion, the sixth sense used many different twists and turns to make the movie very interesting. The director included many different symbolic images such as the imagery of the color red as well as his use of the different camera angles and different perspectives. Although these are only a few of his many used themes, I feel these are the most importa
