Pratet Thai, (Kingdom of Thailand), is one of if not the most beautiful countries in Asia. It has a vast and colorful history. Thailand has some of the greatest architectural masterpieces in the world. Some of the greatest styles of martial arts also come from Thailand. There are many different aspects of this magnificent country. Thailand is located in southern Asia and it borders Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar (Burma). There are four major types of land. In the north are towering mountains. In the Northeast is a rolling landscape of plateaus and is sometimes plagued by drought. In the center of Thailand are very fertile plains, the perfect atmosphere for growing rice. And finally in the south is the dense tropical rain forest. Thailand has a very tropical climate with three informal seasons: cool, hot, and rainy. Almost all of Thailand with exception of the mountain region is very humid. Temperatures range from 8 degrees Celsius at night to a scorching 38 degrees Celsius or higher in the day during the hottest months. Although the area that is now called Thailand has been inhabited for more than forty thousand years it didn't actually become an independent kingdom until the thirteenth century. Modern Thailand was the site of kingdoms renowned for their wealth and sophisticated culture. The first kingdom stated in the thirteenth century was located at Sukhothai in the broad river valley of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya. This area was key to the development of modern day Thailand. In Bangkok, the capitol of Thailand, everything is available. The best restaurants in Bangkok are known for elegant presentations known as "palace cooking". In Bangkok you can find the most exotic regional delicacies. Thailand rich culture has also brought forth many other great things like the magnificent architecture of the Imperial Palace. Other architectural masterpieces include the beautiful sculptures and buildings of the Buddhist temples. There art in pottery is also very impressive among the very many Asian artworks. Another form of art that the Thais excel at is the Martial Arts. They are known worldwide for their champion kick boxers, and also for the very powerful fighting style know as Mui Thai. Thailand is truly "The Land of Smiling Faces". It has gone through many changes with government and also cultures over the centuries, but the current result of those changes have made it the great nation it is today. The Thai people are very proud and religious. They have a great sense of culinary skills and have absorbed many other cultures and have uniquely adapted them so they are now strictly Thai. Thailand is truly a great nation. Southern Thailand is dramatically different from the rest of the country in both scenery and culture.
