walking through the gallery
Walking through the gallery, the artwork of Ansel Easton Adams caught my eye; my favorite piece was his 1929 photograph of Tony Lujan. Adams is famous for his mastery in black and white photography. His photos contain vast scale as well as intimate detail. Adams was born in 1902 in San Francisco. His first love was for music as he trained to become a concert pianist. However, in 1916, Adams took his first trip to Yosemite National Park. It was there when his parents gave him a camera and he took his first photographs. Adams skill for photography grew with age. He published his first set of prints in 1927. In 1932, Adams formed a group of photographers that he named "Group f/64". Their philosophy was to "embody an approach to perfect realization of photographic vision through technically flawless prints". With the support and intervention of this group, Adams went on to develop many outstanding photographs and publish more than two dozen books. Adams main focus in photography was centered in California; more specifically in Yosemite. In 1984, the United States Congress established the Ansel Adams Wilderness area, between Yosemite National Park and the John Muir Wilderness area in California. Adams even had a mount n
I began this sketch by drawing the perimeter of his face. To do so I drew the hood surrounding his face and then drew his face to fit proportionally inside the hood. Next I drew the rest of the hood over his head. The hood folds over itself on each side of his head. In addition, the right side has a stripe design. After drawing the top of the hood I then finished drawing the rest of his dress. This part seemed simple because it was just several long lines running more or less parallel to each other. After I was finished drawing the lines on his cloth, I began to draw his face. His face was challenging because parts of his face are covered by shadow and not to mention his face has many tones. I began with his right eye, which appears more open than the left. Next I drew the right side of his nose and nostrils. In the photograph, the base of his nose is dark, which made it difficult to see the details. Next I drew the wrinkle from his nostril to the right corner of his mouth. This wrinkle is very bold and distinguished. I then complimented that wrinkle with the opposite bold wrinkle on the left side of his face. This one began from the top of the left nostril and extended on to his cheek. Following that, I then drew the lips. Now his lips are bigger than average and very defined. On either corner of the mouth is a wrinkle that extends upward meeting with the wrinkles mentioned above almost perpendicularly. Next I drew the rest of his nose, but before I continued on any further, I wanted to make sure his face was in proportion. I measured the distance from his chin to his nose and then nose to the mi
