Madison stated many valid points in the Federalist Paper No. 10. First, Madison stated that one of the main advantages of a well constructed union would be its tendency to break and control the violence of faction. He believed that the American Constitution would set up a government that had many improvements over other forms of government. Madison heard the complaints of many people who claimed that the government was to weak and unstable. The public good was disregarded in many conflicts and in many decisions rulings were made not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minority party but by the superior force of the interested and over-bearing majority. A faction, Madison stated, could be a majority or a minority as long as it is a group of people who are united by some common belief or idea. Madison claimed that they were two methods of controlling factions. One was by removing its causes and the other was by controlling its effects. What I get out of that is that you can control factions by fixing what they claim is wrong or by controlling what the faction can do. He believed that there were two methods of removing the causes of faction, one was to outlaw the thing they are fig
hting for and the other one was to give every citizen the same opinions, passions , and interests. Obviously a Democratic government could do neither of these because it be impossible to give every citizen the same opinions and interests and it would not be a Democratic government if you would take away the liberties of the people. To take away liberties is to take away what people and factions fight for. Obviously if I was fighting for a liberity and the government said that it was going to outlaw this liberity I would be very unhappy and I would probably want to rise up against the government so I could attain that liberity. Everyone is different because of their religion, ethical background, environment, upbringing, and ambitions and this along with and the unequal distribution of property is what Madison believed formed factions. Madison said that the regulation of these various and interfering interest factiosn forms the principal task of modern legislation. I think that he is trying to say that the governments job should be to act as the moderator of all these seperate factions. Madison even stated that enlightened statesman would probably not be able to adjust the clash in interests of the different factions and still keep the public good in mind and he definatly knew tha
