A detailed Summary of Alternative Ending

So I left, and ran for the back country. I ran for a mile and then stopped, turned around, and went back towards Phelps's. So I made my way towards the back. All of a sudden, about a six or seven dogs were on me. I was about to run out of there til I saw a slave women running out of the kitchen yelling, "Run on out of here you dogs!" The dogs ran right on out of there so fast before I could even blink. The woman didn't say nothin' to me, just looked confused. Then a white lady come runnin' out of the house and grabbed me in joy. "At last Tom Sawyer, I'm so glad you made it. Wow, you got here fast, I wasn't expecting you for a few more days." I just sat there with a little grin on my face and says to her, "I know I tried to get here as fast as I could.

The Phelps's was very nice people, they even gave me my own room. When the lights went off in the house, I made my way for the window. It would be a mighty high jump since I was on the second story, so I figured I would just go right out the front door. So I walked as slow and quiet as I could. I woke up the next mornin' to the from the dogs barkin'. I jumped out of bed to see what all the noise was. When I had got to the window I saw Tom in a carriage heading right towards the house. I was awful scared, so I had to figure out what to do. He was too close for me to go out the front door so I had to jump out the window, It was a might high fall but it was the only way. So I jumped straight out of my window and landed on my ankle. It hurt badly but I had to run away from the house. I headed right towards the old shed where Jim was sleeping. I found the biggest rock I could and threw it at the lock on the little door. The lock busted right off of the door. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. When I opened the door I saw Jim still sleeping there on the floor. So I woke him up and told him about how Tom Sawyer was goin' to the Phelps house. And in a matter of minutes we was runnin' towards the river for our raft. We made it safely to the raft and headed out of the town. We headed north were Jim could be a free man.

I listened then heard someone walkin' right over my head. Then it stopped. A short while after that I heard the footsteps walk back over to where they had started from. I waited a while just to makes sure nobody was walkin' around anymo'. I stood by the front door for about ten minutes then figured whoever was walkin' around up them stairs had went back to sleep.
