The Life of a Weapons and Armor Maker

Everyone in my day is basically divided into three social classes. First there are the Kings and nobles, then the merchants and peasants, and last the serfs and slaves. I am a weapons and armor makers which would fall into the second class of the merchants and peasants. Peasants are considered anyone that works for a living because if you are a noble you never work a day in your life. My job is similar to a blacksmith, in that we both work with metal, but I only make weapons and armor, not horseshoes and tools like he would. I belong to a guild of craftsmen which includes other weapon makers, the blacksmiths of our city and everyone else that works with metals. A guild is a social group formed by a group of craftsmen with the same or similar occupations. Our guild help set the prices of our products and regulates inter-city trading. Like I said above, guilds are social groups were people with similar trades interact with one another. They are almost like their own little community within the city. Each guild has its club night where we meet and usually drink.

I currently live in a house in the middle of the city and have my shop outback where I make all my weapons and armor. I have a wife of a peasant farmers family who I took a liking to when I first moved to this city and her father married her to me in hopes of moving up in the social class since the trade of a weapon maker is a prestigious trade. I wear average priced peasant garments except when I work because I have special clothes for working in. When I work I wear a heavy, thick cloth apron and gloves so I am can handle the hot metals without being harmed. A typical day of mine would start out by getting up and having a typical breakfast, which would include some bread and on good days some pork meat. Then I would go out back to my shop to start on my days work. I would work most of the day with people coming in to order weapons or armor throughout the day. I would also stop working and take trips to deliver the weapons or armor I have finished, but I generally let my apprentice do this. I would generally work until sunset because weapons and armor are in high demand especially since we are in constant warfare at this time. Then I generally go in and have a dinner of some kind of meat, pork or beef, some sort of grain product, and maybe some fruits or vegetables from our small garden out back of our house.
