Piggy becomes an outcast in this novel. He is a chubby boy with glasses who is constantly ridiculed by the other boys on the island. Piggy has many good ideas. A civilized society must be built on a basis of morals. Without morals we would all be savages. A society could never have existed on the island because of the defects of human nature. The evil of humanity is embodied in Jack and it spreads like a disease through the other boys. Eventually, Piggy becomes the victim of Jack and his followers. This illustrates Golding's theme.
