In today's society we are consumed with the violence that is portrayed in media. Everywhere one turns there is an article, TV program or song that deals with the issue of violence. We know that violence is a terrible thing, but still we are unable to avoid being interested and entertained by it. One issue that is of recent public concern is the amount of violence being portrayed in music today, and the effect it has on our daily lives. In the song Kill You by notorious but successful rapper Marshal Matters, also know as Eminem; he expresses his views on violence in many different aspects. In conclusion it is quite apparent that our violent nature as humans is further perpetuated by the media we both watch, and listen to; especially in the form of music. Music videos in particular are the most harmful with the promotion of violence towards women, distorting our views on dealing with conflict mediation, and at lastly at having an impact on our perspective when dealing with domestic violence as a serious crime. "While the entertainment media has the constitutional right to portray almost whatever they choose, we as a society have an obligation to decide what affects we want their influence to have on our human relationships, and life choices that we choose to teach our children." Lastly, violence in our music affects how we as a society view domestic violence as a serious crime. Music videos affect us as a society by making violence seem glamorized, acceptable and as a reasonable solution to our problems. When witnessing a crime or act of violence in a music video, the act is presented in an entertaining manner, blinding us from the real violence that is being portrayed on screen. The same is seen in the music lyrics from the artists who record their songs for the viewing audiences .The lyrics in Eminem's song, Kill You, and other songs sung by other famous artist's allow both males and females to believe domestic violence is not a serious crime. This is often the case because of the comical way the musicians phrase their lyrics so they will appeal to the audience while still conveying their violent messages. The fact is that this is a crime that too often goes unnoticed because of our lack of concern about its seriousness. The violent messages given to today's youth distort their perspective of what the real issue is, which is the mental, and physical abuse of others male and female.
