Bruce Dawes Poems and the Society around him

Through Bruce Dawes poems, he has commented on the society around him, through the three poems, "The flashing of Badges", "Enter Without So Much as Knocking" and "Life-cycle".

In his poem, "The Flashing of Badges", he talked about a derelict that lived on the streets. Everyone that came past who were different to each other, such as if you were in the army, he would say, "I'm an old digger myself", implying that he was in the army as well. Or if you are catholic, then of course he is as well, doing this just to try to have the same interest as you do, so that you would like him and give him some spare change.

But if you cut him off during his conversation with you and just give him some money then he will do him some harm. He just wants you too


It talks about the society around him, such as Bobby Dazzler on Channel 7, when he was first born, but hearing that on TV at that age didn't mean anything to him but when he got older it would of appealed to him. Also all of the commands, laws and signs telling you what to do, in the poem when, Mum took him shopping when she had won the Luck's A Fortch Tricky Tune Quiz showed to everyone in what the modern era has changed too. Saying that we can't go no where, where there isn't a sign nor law telling us what to do. He is trying to portray in what the Modern world has changed too.
