Macbeth's Rise and Fall

The way that we perceive things to be is usually based upon misconceptions that seem to mask reality. The tragic story of Shakespeare's, Macbeth, shows that the outer appearance of anyone may be false. Macbeth is portrayed as an honest, loyal and brave subject. Lady Macbeth is a major part of Macbeth's turn for the worst. The witches play the major part of his downfall.

In the beginning of this story, Macbeth is described as an honest, loyal and brave subject. He is named Thane of Cawdor because of the former thane's betrayal of the king and the king was impressed with Macbeth's actions as general and trusted him to be put in this position. As Duncan says, "For brave Macbeth-well he deserves that name- Disdaining fortune, with his brandish'd steel, Which smoked with bloody execution, Like valour's minion carved out his passage Till he faced the slave..." Macbeth defended his king's honor as well as his own, as Shakespeare showed a good man never backed do

In conclusion, understandingly Macbeth was not a vicious person from the beginning until he is given the chance to kill King Duncan. Without Lady Macbeth's encouragement and guide, he would still be alive and so would she. Again, another Shakespeare tragedy that ended in deaths of people who did not deserve it.

The witches play a major part of Macbeth's downfall. Macbeth has Banquo killed and tries to have his son killed because the witches prophesize that Banquo and his kids will become king. As Macbeth says, "Given to the common enemy of man To make them kings, the seeds of Banquo kings." This shows how Macbeth is selfish and does not want anyone but his heirs to take the throne. The witches lead Macbeth to believe that he is invisible. In their second apparition he hears, "The power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth." This makes Macbeth think he can win every fight that he is immortal to others. The witch's prophecies come true but not in the way Macbeth expected. M
