Amy tan's vision of an ideal women differs from the two different time periods, in the first story involving June, she depicts an ideal women of that time period as being independent and relying on herself, but as in the case of the other stories the children had lots of respect for their parents and did exactly as their parents told them to do. In June's case she did have lots of respect for her parents but not as much as An-Mei and Lindo Jong. For example on page 14 she is explaining her arrival at the Hsus's house for the Joy Luck Club meeting, she is disrespecting her elders by showing up to the meeting late and interrupting by the way her father draws attention to her. In my family if I were to interrupt an important meeting at my house by walking in and having drawn all the attention to my self, I would definitely get a good slap in the face by my mom or at least get yelled at for a couple of hours. Because in my household it is very d

isrespectful to interrupt your elders, and in this case it creates a bad name for the family.
And last but not least Lindo Jong was the wife figure in the story because she was the one to be married to the person she hadn't even met yet. From this it shows that she was told what to do as in many of the cases of minority families. And due to the arranged marriage at such an early age she was told that if she did not act like the perfect wife, as in to take care of the mother in law the husband and care for them until their dying days her marriage with Tyan-yu would be broken off and shame would befall her family. Like most girls growing up in a minority family, she did not want to disgrace her family name, and because of this she was told how to act and what to say her entire life.
