Since Sarif was appointed the crime rate in New York City has gone down by an astounding rate of 55 percent. People feel that Sarif's ways are harsher and too physical for them. But I would believe that the crime rate going down by 55 percent is proof enough that he is doing a good job. Another reason for the decline could be because of New York's special unit, better know as the Street Crimes unit. A group of officers dressed like regular civilians gives criminals the fear of never knowing when it could all come crumbling down on top of them. This probably keeps the criminals in check. I know that if I were a criminal, I would always be looking behind my back making sure no one was around. They will always have the idea of a cop just around the corner or right next to them. I believe that this is a great tactic used by the New York City police department.

The question is whether his policing techniques are acceptable or if they are illegal. Well if they are they have yet to be caught. I know that politicians are mostly corrupt, but even the mayor of the city, Rudy Giuliani, is proud of the police force. The mayor is the spokesperson of the city and he "boasts" about the force. This is a very high regard. This also gives the police department more leeway with the antics that they use. If the mayor supports them they must be doing something good. By the mayor supporting them, they feel that they are doing a good job. Therefore, their antics might just get a little tougher.
