"Vlad the Impaler" was born Vlad Tepes, 1430 in Schassburg, a town in Transylvania. Vlad Dracul his father was the prince of Wallachia. The name "Dracula" comes from his father's name Dracul. Vlad's rule did have some advantages. In his land any crime was punishable by death from lying to stealing, even cheating. These strick laws kept crime very low on the streets. It was said that a person could leave a gold coin on the street and the next day they'd find in the same spot they left it.

In German pamphlets Vlad is portrayed as torturous and evil, "a son of the devil" The Russian pamphlets show a different side, as a good helpful ruler who improved Transylvania. Although it was true that Vlad helped keep crime off the streets, both countries do agree that he tortured and killed thousands of people. People have many opinions about whether or not Vlad was a good ruler. But it really depends on if they were looking for a ruler to help the economy and crime, or take care of the people.
