Summary of Chapter: First defining freedom, order and equality, this chapter focused on political ideology by introducing what the text called "the original dilemma-conflict between freedom and order" and "the modern dilemma-conflict between freedom and equality". By addressing issues dealing with order or equality in American society, personal freedom is sacrificed. In the original dilemma, protection of people and property was the purpose of government - maintaining order.
