Macbeth' s Ilusion vs reality
In William Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, Macbeth is a character that subconsciously looses his awareness of what is reality and illusion. This is a result of his yearning ambitions. His aspiration to become the King of Scotland brings the worst out of him and makes him oblivious to the truth of reality. If you hurt someone's family member, there is no way they will overlook it. The truth will come out eventually and once you do something wrong, the guilt will always be there. Also, Macbeth shows that his thirst for power blocks him from the realization of what is reality and illusion throughout the play. Having the knowledge of the three apparitions, Macbeth decides to act on one of them. He acts upon the first apparition, " Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff! Beware the Thane of Fife. " (IV, i, 71-73). His action towards this apparition is stated as Macbeth tells himself: Time, thou anticipat'st my dread exploits. The flighty purpose never is o'ertook unless the deed go with it. From this moment the very firstlings of my heart shall be the firstlings of my hand. And even now, to crown my thoughts with acts, be it thoughts with acts, be it thought
Macbeth thinks that killing Macduff's family will scare and keep Macduff away from him. He thinks that Macduff will not do anything to him because of the death of his family. Although in reality, if someone harms someone's family member, obviously they will be furious. They will not just let it go but look for revenge and retaliate. Of course they will want justice for their family member(s) who have been harmed. Macbeth does not realize this because he is so caught up in his desire for power. In addition, Macbeth demonstrates his overpowering ambition in the beginning when he has to do his first evil deed. He must kill Duncan to be the King of Scotland. At first he is hesitant and doubtful about the deed. However, his wife Lady Macbeth convinces him to go through with it and assures him that the plan is full proof: Lastly, when Macbeth sees his bloody hands he realizes the crime he has done and feels remorseful. Again Lady Macbeth steps in and assures Macbeth, " A little water clears us of this deed " (II, iii, 66). Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth that if they wash the blood stains from their hands, then they will be free from the evil deed they have done.
