Brave New World

Aldous Huxley?fs novel ?gBrave New World?h(B.N.W) and Ridley Scott?fs film ?gBlade runner?h has both established their own unique setting constituting the idea of a perfect world. Both texts strive to define the word Utopia and apply their perception upon humanity, technological and social organization regardless of the boundaries of nature. Various literal and film techniques are used to enhance their emphasis.

The definition of nature is the essential, liberal character of something; the material world and all things contained in it except those made by human beings.

In ?gB.N.W?h, Huxley challenges the concept of a Utopian world by presenting a unnatural society, which accepts whthout questions, its scientific, technological and social organization. The novel poses the question: Is it better to be this organised and controlled without the problems of unemployment, disease or war, or is it better to have the right to have some freedom of choice and risk unemployment, d


iscomfort or conflict? According to this assumption of a Utopian world, the society must have community, identity and stability as the worldly motto. Community is normally used to refer to things shared in common. In the world state, it is round up in the hypnopaedic proverb, ?gEveryone belongs to everyone else?h. Such a start of dehumanisation is justified by the controller in the name of social stability. Hypnopaedia, or sleep teaching, sexual freedom and an emphasis on encouragement and all evade the need for reason, judgement and personal responsibility. This however leads to the destruction of a family or long-term love relationship that makes being viviparous obscene. Promiscuity becomes common day practice since no one is supposed to be alone in a Utopia world.
