In 1899, United States took a huge step as John Hay issued the Open Door Policy to create a balance of world powers. Although both policies had similar grounds of establishment, they differed in power and motives.
The Open Door Policy and Monroe Doctrine had similar grounds of establishment, as they both were towards the well being of United States foreign policy. Moreover, the Monroe Doctrine was issued in 1923, following the Napoleanic wars. Similarly, the Open Door Policy, which was issued in 1899, followed the Spanish-American War. The differences in both policies can be seen in the powers and motives of the United States. England supported both the Monroe Doctrine, and the Open Door Policy. The Monroe Doctrine was made under the influence of England because they would be favored since they are the ancestors of the enforcers which is America, but the Open Door Policy which was established by John Hay and the American imperialist. This change in establishment shows that America has revolved into a world power. They are not under the influence of Europe and can now stand up for themselves, and be respected for it.
