cats and dogs
Pets are great companions to play with, go for walks with, talk to, and love. They are best friends to live our lives with. I have had several cats and dogs as my best buddies, and unique family members. To have a successful relationship with a pet requires some attention and consideration that many people do not realize. I have learned that cats and dogs have different needs for care, and love. My husband, Buddy, brought home a puppy, that he told me was a Danely breed, fifteen years ago. He played a cute trick on me. He knew that I would never want a giant horse of a dog in the house, so he lied, made up the name Danely, and told me not to worry, as a Danely is a miniature of the Great Dane breed. This Danely would not weigh over twenty pounds full grown, and would barely grow to the height of my knee. I believed his story, fell in love with this tiny black puppy that fit in my hands, and agreed to keep this Danely. We named him Junior, because he was so tiny, and cute. Junior grew, and grew, and grew some more. He grew into the giant horse of a dog that I feared. And his name seemed totally silly, but we liked it. Of course, by this time we were hooked, regardles
and unevenly on his coat of fur, which make him look slightly odd and unusual, but still beautiful in a weird way. I named him "Arnie", for a character in one of my favorite movies, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Arnie, in the movie, is a retarded teen, who is playful, and silly. And my kitten was I acquired our cat, Arnie, after Junior died from old age. We had Junior for fourteen great years, and we thought a cat would be a nice change, since we would not consider replacing Junior with another dog. We also thought we would be able to keep our home in better condition, and get better sleep, since cats are smaller. Mealtimes for Junior were anytime and all the time. He was always hungry, and we fed him well. We kept his big bowl full of quality dry food daily, and gave him a treat each night of bits of Arnie is easy to feed, and all that is necessary is a fresh, clean bowl of dry cat food, and fresh clean water. He prefers his water straight out of the faucet, and so, he will sometimes take a break from playing with the drips to get a drink. We fed him kitten chow until he was a year old, then we changed his food to cat chow, which he is still eating. Arnie gets a special treat of a small dribble of milk each night. He somehow knows when the milk is open, because he comes immediately, and meows until he gets a lick. He also likes to lick our bowls after we eat ice cream. Once in a while, we give him a small bite of tuna, or chicken. Other than that he is not interested in any other food. He goes potty in his litter box very well.
