Suicide is the voluntary and willful taking of one's own life. It is a huge problem with the entire population in society's around the world, but has become one of the biggest problems with young adolescents in the United States. Adolescence is commonly referred to as the period between the normal onset of puberty and the beginning of adulthood in most societies. This is a time period of most stress in young American's, and this is the stage where most suicides occur. Suicide is the third leading cause of adolescent deaths, after car accidents and homicides, although suicide accounts for less than 2% of deaths in the entire population. In the Unites States, 5,000 adolescents kill themselves each year. This is more than 13 in every 100,000 teens. However, far more adolescents attempt suicide than actually kill themselves.
