Conflicts between stakeholders in the workplace bring about many impacts on society such as new/improved laws and legislation regarding different aspects of the workplace and price wars. During the industrial revolution there weren't laws protecting the workers rights in regards to injury compensation, wages or work conditions. In the 1850's, the Trade Union movement began in Australia and is continued today through the Labour Party.
Unions are a mainly involved in conflicts between stakeholders as they push for higher wages, better working conditions (which includes providing a disability-friendly workplace), health cover etc. examples of union movements include the ongoing teacher strikes for higher wages. An example of this is the re
cent decision to rule in favour of casual teachers in a pay discrimination case.
The Teachers Federation funded the case for thirteen women. The case was first lodged in 1995. During the hearings the thirteen women were subject to intensive cross-examination in a case which the Department of School Education fought most bitterly.
There have been cases in the past in which owners have neglected the use of safety practices at work and the needs of others, when these cases are disputed either through court or through unions and lobby groups, changes in the law are brought about. In concluding, there must be dispute and conflict in order for a society to benefit and to ensure that these conflicts are resolved and the problems properly rectified so as there is not a repeat occurance.
