Inherit The Wind

Inherit The Wind is a play written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. The setting of the play was in a town called Hillsboro back in July of 1925. The play is based on the actual event that really happened in Dayton, Tennessee. The event is based upon what The Bible states vs. what evaluation states on how mankind was brought onto this Earth. One of the main characters in the play is a man by the name of Matthew Harrison Brady. Brady is "a benign giant of a man". He has run for president three times and has lost each time. He is a claimed expert on The Bible. He is a very well known man. The town itself is a very religious town and believes in The Bible very strongly. The question is why does Matthew Harrison Brady come to Hillsbo


The Main reason why Mr. Brady comes to Hillsboro is to defend what The Bible is stating. In the play Mr. Brady is a strong believer of what The Bible states and uses what he knows about The Bible to his knowledge to his advantage.

In the beginning of the play Mr. Brady questions a schoolboy by the name of Howard. Howard states that what his teacher, Mr. Bret Cates, is that "people started out from cells." Howard also talked about exactly how the cells developed into the "Old World Monkey," and man evaluated from there. To back that up Mr. Brady states that the world was created in seven days which was stated in the "beautiful Book of Genesis." Basically getting the jury, which is made up of mostly townspeople, on his side.
