The Internet has transformed not only the book industry, but the travel industry as well. Where traditional travel agents have been slow to realize, the industry is information based. People have information regarding their destinations and when they want to take a trip before they begin. What they desire to find is an available seat, at a certain price. The Internet has made it easier for consumers to get their travel information as well as purchase their tickets online. As the travel industry changes to meet changing consumer needs, we are able to classify it into five different axioms. These axioms, or truths, fit to characterize the travel industry as being affected heavily by technology.
Axiom Number 3: New Delivery systems require big investments
For airline companies, the E-Ticket has vastly changed their previous distribution of tickets. Northwest Airlines has moved about 65% of tickets to E-tickets and has kiosks set up in the airport so those E-ticketed passengers can check themselves in.
