Ariel and Caliban - Individual Destiny In William Shakespeare's The Tempest, the former Duke of Milan, Prospero, is marooned on a desert island. While on the island, he catches two slaves named Ariel and Caliban. Sharply different in both body and mind, their differences in character control their ultimate destiny.
