Krueger, a freshman, has died from alcohol poisoning with his blood-alcohol level was at five times the legal limit in Massachusetts. Reports from his fraternity brothers showed that he had multiple drinks in a short period of time otherwise known as binge drinking. The Journal of the American Medical Association has done a study that demonstrated how frequent binge drinkers have a much higher occurrence of problems than even those who occasionally binge and much greater rate than those who drink fairly moderately. According to the U.S Department of Justice, 40 percent of violent crimes committed in the U.S was due to alcohol abuse. Each year, about 3 million violent crimes happens each year in which the offender has been drinking at the time of the offense. Two-thirds of victims that suffered violence by a former or current spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend reported that alcohol was the factor. Among these victims, 3 out of 4 incidents reported to have involved an offender who has been drinking. There are no magic potions that will solve the long term problem of binge drinking. There many factors that contribute to this problem, however, there are many solutions needed to decrease the problem.
