Stopping by Woods on a Snowy

Evaluation of Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening can be seen as one of Robert Frost's simplest poems, but a deeper meaning can be explored. This poem portrays a man who is very tired and would like a chance to rest before continuing his journey. Due to his prior engagements he can not rest, but for a moment. It has been said that Frost wrote this poem from personal experience. Written shortly after the completion of his book, New Hampshire, which leads to the belief of simplicity. These facts are the exact reason why a more intense meaning can be discovered. This elaborate poem is a demonstration of how society draws us from noticing true beauty.

The woods metaphorically portray the finer things in life that the average person is too busy for. The traveler realizes that, "The woods are lovely, dark and deep," which creates a feeling of a distant happiness. A place that he uses as a retreat from society, but cannot currently reach. That is why his retreat is described as dark and deep. These adjectives are used to describe something far away. He is torn between what he'd like to do and what he has to do. This feeling is explained in the phrase, "but I have promis

"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," is not close to being one of Frost's simpler poems. In fact, it might have one of the deepest meanings of all. Frost expands on a quote that has been seen through out history: "Stop and smell the roses." If we don't take the time to notice true beauty, then what's the point of life at all?

One of the strongest demonstrations of how society has pulled us away from true beauty comes in the very first sentence. A single man owns these woods; "his house is in the village, though." A pause has been created after the word village, which makes "though" stand out. What would be the cause for a sudden pause? Possibly, at one time, this man has known and experienced the beauty of nature, but he's drawn away to join society. He won't even know that the traveler has stopped to admire his property because he won't take the time to engage in similar behavior. Another way of depicting this phrase would be to look at this man as a rich man. Maybe he bought the land, but doesn't appreciate its true meaning. He only finds the financial value in it. It's safe to conclude, that somehow, the owner has been drawn away from his land. The cause, of his lack of appreciation, is left to the imagination.

Throughout life, many people pass up the opportunity to notice the small things. In the instance that someone does stop to notice, it is not understood as to why. The traveler choo
