There is probably no single event that led to Hitler being elected as Chancellor in 1923, instead there is a string of events and situations that caused such a prejudice and twisted man to achieve such a high role in parliament. In this essay I will attempt to explain and understand why this happened.
The great depression had affected the entire nation people from all classes, from all walks of life were seeing their great and once strong country being reduced to almost third world status. The higher classes were loosing their land and businesses to this great economical crisis. As soon as a factory was closed down, the middle classes who managed and looked after the factory were out of a job. The lower classes that worked in the factories also immediately lost their jobs. Even those who were unemployed had their income lowered due to more people being on the dole and the dole being decreased. Hitler found strength in this weakness and began to promise the nation that Germany would be strong again as soon as Hitler got into power.
