When is murder okay? How about when the crime is completed in self-defense or in this case defending two innocent children. Boo Radley is a calm, sweet, and possibly mentally challenged man. The townspeople consider him an individual who should be locked up in a mental institution, or a homicidal maniac. Bob Ewell tried to kill Scout and Jem Finch with a kitchen knife. Boo Radley saved Scout and Jem, by killing Bob Ewell in defense. When Heck Tate, the trusty sheriff, got to the scene he decided to say that Bob fell on his knife considering the consequences Boo would have to experience if people found out he saved the children. In To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Heck Tate did the right thing to cover up Bob's murder because he was protecting a good person, Bob Ewell deserved what he got, and that is the morally right factor to do.The primary reason is Heck Tate is right with his decision to not report Boo is because Boo Radley is a very shy childlike man. Boo has lived in solitary confinement most of all his life. Therefore, Boo has no social skills and may not react the same way most people would to being exposed to the town's people so quickly. The last but final reason why Heck Tate made the right decision is because that is the morally right factor to do. It is the morally right factor to do because to let a mad man go around stalking and attempting to kill people is wrong. Bob Ewell needed to be incarcerated for a long time or in this case eradicated. Therefore, what Boo did might actually be considered the right factor to do. Bob also pretty much had Tom Robinson killed for a crime Tom did not commit. "I'm not a very good man, sir, but I am sheriff of Maycomb County. Lived in this town all my life an' I'm goin' on forty-three years old. Know everything that's happened since before I was born. There's a black boy dead for no reason, and the man responsible for it's dead. Let the dead bury the dead this time, Mr. Finch. Let the dead bury the dead." (275-276, Lee) This proves a point because it is saying that no one needs to be responsible for a man who is not worth anything's death. Heck Tate did the morally right thing not reporting the crime. Another reason Heck Tate did the correct thing with the case is because Bob Ewell deserved what he got. Bob Ewell is a immoral, filthy, lying, aggressive man.
