the old man and the sea
The Old Man and the Sea was written by Earnest Hemmingway and to be honest the only reason I read it was because it was only 89 pages long. As I'm sure you can guess, the book is about and old man and the sea. The man hasn't caught a fish in 84 straight days, and one day he finally does. The story takes place in Cuba and the Gulf Stream, the main spot the old man fishes and is based on a true story. This is not commercial fishing, the old man fishes in a tiny boat with his bare hands. Not bass fishing, we're talking about 1500 lb. marlin and swordfish, which is difficult today with advanced technology, let alone doing it bare-handed. There are only 3 characters to this story. In his mind, he had wasted a wonderful life and a friend as well. There is a main conflict to this book, the struggle between the old man and the fish, which is the bulk of the book. Then after the fish is caught, the old man fights off sharks until he is exhausted. When the old man catches the fish, he has no idea what he's up against, he only wishes that the fish would jump so he could see how big it was. Little did he know that the fish would drag him out to sea for 3 days before he jumped. After seeing the fish jump and seeing it's beauty, the old man almost hated to kill it, but he had no choice. To kill the fish, he thrust a harpoon through its heart, finally succeeding and catching the biggest fish he'd ever seen. Unfortunately, all the blood attracted sharks, which the o
