The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding begins when a group of young boys get stranded on a tropical island without any adults. When the boys are all together they decide they need to elect a leader. The boys choose Ralph primarily because he is the oldest. That angers Jack because him and Ralph aren't the best of friends. To restore Jacks hurt feelings Ralph makes him the leader of the hunter group. Jack promises to keep them supplied with meat. Ralph then decides to make rules for the boys to follow, but he only comes up with one. The rule is at meetings only the person with the conch, or horn can speak. After Piggy who is Ralph's best friend lectures everyone on how important it is to be rescued Ralph decides to put a fire on the top of a mountain, so if a plane goes buy the smoke can be seen. They use Piggy's glasses to kindle a fire.

While Ralph and some others are building huts Jack is out stalking a pig but the pig got away. When Jack gets back to the beach Ralph starts to complain to him that the hunters should do more work at building huts then roaming in the jungle. Jack starts to get angry and the boys get into an argument, but they are able


At the next meeting Ralph lectured the boys about how immature they are and how they need to support the decisions made by the group. Afterwards they discuss the fear the little kids have about the beast in the night. Ralph and Piggy try to explain to them that there is no beast. The meeting starts to get chaotic and Jack doesn't want to obey Ralph so the hunters run off. Ralph then wants to resign as the chief but Piggy and Simon reassure him to stay chief or else there will be chaos. During the night a plane that was fling overhead had been shot down and the dead pilot came down in his parachute. The explosion woke up the kids who were assigned to watch the fire. When they went back to the beach they said the beast attacked them from the. The next day they tried to search for the beast, but instead of finding the beast they found a new part of the island. Ralph and Jack found the new part of the island, and their friendship they once had looked like it was coming back. The next morning the news of the beast spreads and the boys become more terrified. Jack calls a meeting and decides that he should be the leader because it is safer with him. Most of the boys join him and leave Ralph.

The boy Simon who was in the woods all alone discovered the body of the pilot. When he was running on the beach in the dark the hunters saw him and thought he was the beast. They charged at him and brutally murdered him with their spears. It was all over by the time they found out it was only Simon. The next day
