One of the most important decisions that an author has to make when writing a story is how it is to be presented to the reader. Whether its going to be a first or a third person narrative, what kind of language is to be used, and the writing style of the author himself, play an immense role in the story. In A&P, John Updike's detailed description of the world through Sammy's eyes helps to bring out the theme onto a level at which the reader could relate to the story.
