Free throws

When you think of the sport basketball, the first thing that pops into your mind is Michael Jordan dunking the ball or shooting a jump shot. But one of the most essential skills in basketball is shooting a free throw. A free throw is generally shot when a player is foul by another player on the opposing team while he or she is shooting a shot. A free throw is shot about fifteen feet away from the basket. A player gets to shoot the ball without anyone guarding him, they get about ten seconds to get the shot off. This is why basketball players gave the nickname "charity stripes" to shooting free throws. A lot of players ignore the importance of shooting free throws, they don't spend the adequate amount of time needed to practice this important skill. Legendary Purdue player, Rick Mount, once said in his shooting video The Mount Method, that "about 75% of close games are won or lost at the free throw line." A lot of games are won or lost by a point or two, and players would end up going home blaming themselves for missing a free throw at the beginning of the game. When you practice shooting free throws, it will also aid you in your overall shooting. Shooting free throws is not a hard thing but it takes a proper ro

In order to shoot free throws, a player needs to develop the proper shooting techniques on the free throw line. When shooting a free throw, the player's feet should be shoulders length apart. He should align his shooting hand straight with the basket, and his shoulders need to face the direction of his shot. The foot of his shooting hand should be toeing the line and his other foot should be a bit back, this will give him the proper balance and allows him to use his legs to create more power for his shot. The shooting hand and leg should be perpendicular to the ground when he lifts the ball up to his shooting position; which is near the front of this head. When he is in the shooting position, the back of his shooting hand and his shoulders should form the letter "L", and the other hand should be holding the ball firmly on the side. For a player to get a more accurate shot, he must aim for the back of the rim instead of the front of the rim or the middle of the basket. The reason for that is because by making the back of the rim as the target it gives the player a wider space to get the ball into the basket.

After a player develops the proper shooting techniques he will need to come up with a sensible routine to follow before he shoots the ball. One reason for that is because this helps the player focus on the shot rather than on the score or the noise around them. The second reason for doing this is because a tired player might relax and skip essential mechanical movem
