The public obtains information about important events around the world and nation through sources of news. Visuals and sound used while covering news events catch the viewer's attention, as well as depict a mood of the story. Dateline NBC is a television show possessing time and space for visuals and sound, therefore they are able to do a better job with such aspects. Dateline shows the reaction of the community after hearing news of the tragic shooting, shots of the parents and the children crying once they found each other outside of the school and shots of the ramshackle neighborhood where the families live. Such images make the viewer feel closer to the effects of the tragedy. A metaphor of a horror scene is depicted as the camera moves in slow motion with fuzzy black and white footage of the elementary school.
Many news sources are guilty of one-sided coverage of news events.
